Wolf Supermoon

We send our newsletter on the full moon to celebrate how we launched, roasting coffee outdoors in Jamesport, NY beneath the full moon. Image: Shutterstock

The first full moon of the year, arriving on January 3, 2026, is known as the Wolf Supermoon (strong name!). A supermoon occurs when the moon reaches its perigee, the point in its orbit closest to Earth, making it appear larger and brighter. Historically, this moon was named for the wolves heard howling more frequently this time of year as they communicate to locate pack members and coordinate their hunt.

Coordinating the hunt is an apt metaphor for my family right now. The final quarter of 2025 was a significant stretch—one of those seasons that is simultaneously exhausting and punctuated by the energy of new beginnings.

Between returning to a full-time role with a sustainability-focused company in a high-growth phase, navigating the demands of parenting, and walking my elders through some of the harder chapters of aging, the holidays required many deep breaths. It was a lesson in pure grit and a firm commitment to keep pushing forward.

In a stroke of luck, the facility where we roast began offering weekend hours. This allowed either I or Brett (mostly Brett!) to spend Saturday mornings roasting to keep up with the demand for Jamesport Coffee. Over the holidays, we saw a surge in bulk orders for corporate events and organizations—a new and exciting direction for us. We had fun imagining the healthy group interactions happening over cups of our coffee, and how far we’ve all come since the social isolation of 2020.

One highlight was roasting for a Zen Center in the Northeast. Apparently, Buddhists need coffee, too! That’s exactly the kind of energy we want to fuel: peaceful, thoughtful, and kind.

As we approach the Wolf Supermoon on January 3rd, I’m reminded that wolves don't howl at the moon out of distress; they howl to locate their pack and coordinate their next move. This January, that is exactly the goal: finding the signal through the noise, reconnecting with the "pack," and moving out of survival mode into a coordinated, intentional 2026.

I’m setting my own intention to move gently and purposefully through the coming year. May we all find clarity, intention, and grace in 2026. And for those moments when we need a little extra help? There’s always coffee.

Ana and Brett
